He Gave Them A Cigar? He spooged on their dress? He suborned perjury from them? He got Vernon Jordan to offer them a job with Revlon? What? Obama's racist black minister says that Bill Clinton (the first black president) gave blacks the Monica treatment: Man should not put limits on what God can do, but that's what people always do, he told the crowd. Just as God made five loaves and two fishes feed thousands, God has provided liberators for blacks in the past - from Nat Turner to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and now Barack Obama. But, Wright said, there were always reasons not to follow them. I eagerly await further elaboration. I'm going to run out of popcorn, watching the so-called "progressives" finally immolating themselves in their vile identity politics. TrackBack URL for this entry:

http://www.ucc.org/news/thomas-denounces-smear-1.html This is an informative read. Posted by at January 18, 2008 02:34 PMNice link Mr. "at" Thanks. Yes, it certainly is true that the pastor at Obama's particular UCC congregation is nutty. He seems to have a tongue that runs all over the place. As to progressives immolating themselves in identity politics, I'm not at all sure Obama is going to light any fires. In fact it would run contrary to everything he has said and done in the past. Leave out this particular pastor and I find nothing at all wrong with a church rooted in a particular heritage if, as it says, the goal is to bring ALL men to Christ. Given the tortured history of African Americans in America, the church was one place someone could find self-respect; it was hence necessary to affirm a positive identity at a time, particulary in the past where to be black was to be considered sub-human. Of course it's certainly something that can be exploited by anyone who wants to nip this uppity Obama who wants to transcend racial identification, in the bud. Guilt by association, right? And of course ignore all the other associates of Obama. It would be different if Obama said he never disagreed with his pastor. Hey, it was about time! I was wondering when Rand would get around to this. Perhaps some quotes from Obama's speech to AIPAC would demonstrate his guilt and fealty to his pastor further.
I think you're taking it the wrong way T'n'T, or rather I'm with you all the way until you try to read Rand's mind ^_^ Obama is doing well in my honest opinion, just by being himself he's getting Bill Clinton to do tomato impressions almost daily ^_^ I also love the current "Reagan praise" debacle and I hope Hillary keeps insisting on stabbing herself in the back ^_^ Obama might be as bad or worse than any of the other Democrats on policy but at least he's seems to have some genuinely nice character traits, or maybe not, maybe it's just that the rest of them seem so utterly despicable. Posted by Habitat Hermit at January 18, 2008 08:53 PMHH, There is a whole movement afoot to tear Obama down on the basis of his pastor/church or some magazine that is sponsored by the church. The ADL is getting in on the act, as are some Jewish commentators such as Richard Cohen. I'm not sure whether they are acting as surrogates for Clinton. I may be wrong about where Rand was going with this, and if so, my apologies. Here's where I reject guilt by association. Let's say you have 100 close associates and lets say N of them spout racist bunk. Does that make you a racist? Well, maybe. Maybe it does if N is close to 100. But what if it isn't? What if N is closer to 1? Anyone of us here has a parent who is a bigot? Is it possible to still find things you love about that parent? I do. What if most of your close associates are dedicated to a better America, a post-racial America? The latter case describes Obama. So then, knowing this, why take aim, other than to tear down? This is ugly. And I really wish Jewish groups wouldn't be getting in on it. Finally you have a, well, half-black leader who wants to reconcile the strong bonds that used to exist between these communities in the Civil Rights Era, and that's clearly not good enough for Abe Foxman. Posted by Toast_n_Tea at January 19, 2008 06:52 AMLet's say you have 100 close associates and lets say N of them spout racist bunk. Does that make you a racist? No (not that it has any relevance to the discussion). But if you're running for president and your pastor is one, and you refuse to say anything about it, or denounce it, people are entitled to wonder if you are, or if you are least cynically willing to let it ride so that you won't alienate the votes of the other racists that sympathize with him. Posted by Rand Simberg at January 19, 2008 09:54 AMI believe Obama has done these things that you want him to do. He has said he disagrees with his pastor on the issue of concern. He has condemned Farrakhan's anti-semitic comments. What else is needed? I guess Abe Foxman wants Obama to condemn his own church. Is that what you want too? It is a little disengenuous to suggest that it is guilt by association if you discuss Obammas Pastor when discussing Obamma. Unless Obamma's selection of the church was purely cosmetic then the Pastor and the tenets of the church say a lot about Obamma. As does his interference in Kenya's politics. Posted by davod at January 19, 2008 09:21 PM"There is a whole movement afoot to tear Obama down" Well sure, I'd think it's called the Hillary Clinton campaign ^_^ Posted by Habitat Hermit at January 19, 2008 10:49 PMPost a comment |
