Offense By Surrogate
Lileks has thoughts on the continuing slide of the Brits into a multi-culti PC hell:
"Pc Mahmood believes it was 'not meant in a malicious way, just a bit of banter'. He told a sergeant, who was 'really disgusted', that he knew it was meant as a joke and did not want to make a formal complaint.
'I just took it on the chin. But someone else in the room must have thought it was a racist incident, and reported it,' the officer said."
So the officer who got the “gift” wasn’t offended. Everyone else in the room thought it was “below the belt” as well, and didn’t hoot at the Mooselman and shout porky porky porky, who’s got the porky now, wot? But the people who had nothing to do with the event were offended on the fellow’s behalf, and that was it.
Orwell was slightly mistaken: the future is a boot, stomping on a joke.

The PC tribes are just like the muslims except instead of getting angry and rioting over every offense they get all legal about it.

Ah yes, another case of the professional "outragees" getting someone sacked, suspended, fined or censored. If the person who gets jibed isn't upset, it should not be an issue.
God forbid that they just ask the person immediately involved if they felt abused by the circumstance. Oh no!! I mentioned God. That probably makes the atheists feel bad. I'm sorry.
Oh no, now the believers in any God are going to be mad because I apologized to the atheists!!
Hmmm. could it be that there is no end to all this touchy-feely, thin skinned madness?

I take a different tact. They are police officers and should have tough skins. They should not even ask the 'offended'. If the 'offended' did not take the steps to fill out paperwork and officially complain that they are now in a hostile work environment then the matter should be discarded.
I also think if the immediate supervisor thought potential offense was a possibility at the time of the event he/she should have unleashed the well known British barbs, sarcasm and mockitude towards the offender to turn the prank around and ensure it did not happen again.
