I must admit I don't see much point in political giving or activism. It's rare that one person can sway an election. But if one does see a high payoff in swinging an election, isn't it about 8 or 10 sigma more likely if candidates are neck and neck than if one has ten times the prospects of the other? Illuminate me. How is the civic duty to vote more useful than a civic duty to answer customer service surveys?

There isn't a known and legally binding outcome from answering a customer service survey, and there is for voting.
