Dumb Metaphor Alert

Noah Pollack finds one:

O.K., I'm no expert on monster trucks, but how do you lose the key while driving? Doesn't it have to be in the ignition? And don't monster trucks have brakes, or did we lose those, too? And where is the driver — can't he steer the monster truck away from the rainforests and the spotted owls?

Well, it's not that surprising. After all, it is Tom Friedman we're talking about.

Monster trucks do have remote kill switches in case they do veer out-of-control, and the driver is somehow incapable of stopping the vehicle. It's not that the key's are lost or the pedal stuck, but that the truck and driver were jostled while crushing those greenhouse producing cars.

Nothing is as bothersome to central planners as a system with no central plan. Nothing is more frightening than the discovery that the system is doing well without them.

If it is a full out race vehicle it most likely doesn't even have a key. Just a few toggle switches to power on the fuel pumps, the ignition system, the gauges, the telemetry, and then a push button to engage the starter motor.
