This Is A Test I want to add an Amazon search button to my template, and I have (right below the Amazon Honor System box to the left). But it doesn't show up, as it does in this post. Can anyone take a look at the source and tell me why? [Update] Oh, this is weird. Not only does it not show up in the sidebar, but when it shows up in this post, it doesn't show as a searchbox--it comes in as Jonah's new book. When I did "Post Preview" it was fine, but something strange is going on here when it actually posts to the page. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:14 AMTrackBack URL for this entry:

It does show up for me, Rand. Posted by Jim Muncy at December 16, 2007 11:18 AMSame for me, I see it fine. Posted by Gary C Hudson at December 16, 2007 11:20 AMI'm seeing identical Amazon search boxes, on the left and in this post, using IE7. Posted by Roger Strong at December 16, 2007 11:20 AMAnd as a searchbox? That's good. Is it centered, like the Amazon Honor System box? It must be something to do with my current Amazon cookies. Maybe I'll switch over to my Linux box and see what it looks like... Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:20 AMOK, I'm now looking at it with Firefox on Fedora. I'm seeing a searchbox in the post, but nothing in the sidebar. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:22 AMOK, now I'm seeing it, using IE. [Going off to look at template] Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:24 AMOK, I'm still scratching my head. I thought that the problem was that it was a width of 180 in a column set to 140, but I changed the width to 130, and it's still not showing up in Firefox. Any other Firefox users out there to confirm this? Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:28 AMGreat. Now I see in IE that, by reducing the width, it didn't shrink it--it just truncated the right side, so you don't get the pulldown button. I guess I have to go look up the code manual for an ilink... Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:35 AMI see it in the post and the sidebar although the one in the sidebar is chopped off on the right side. I'm using Firefox version 2.0.0.11 Posted by Fuloydo at December 16, 2007 11:36 AMThat should have been "iframe," not "ilink." What OS are you using Firefox in? That's the version that I'm having problems with. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:41 AMStill not showing up in Linux, either. Very strange... Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:49 AMI just checked from Patricia's Windows machine, and it shows up in Firefox there. But I still can't figure out how to shrink the width on the frame. It's useless right now, because there's no "Go" button showing. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 11:52 AMI thought that the problem was that it was a width of 180 in a column set to 140, but I changed the width to 130, and it's still not showing up in Firefox. Certainly one of your problems is that the actual contents of the iframe, as supplied by Amazon, are 180 pixels wide no matter what you do. You can't make 180 pixels fit into a 140-pixel blogroll column, worse still if the center tag that you put around it creates mandatory 10-pixel margins. But you should also consider that those alleged 40 extra pixels could be exaggerated by media bias. If the width problem is real, it could be a Clintonite plot to disrupt revelations against them on blogs. Liberals and Democrats have had a hand in the development of both Firefox and HTML standards. But you should also consider that those alleged 40 extra pixels could be exaggerated by media bias. I'll give that bit of (typical, from you) idiocy all the consideration that it's due. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 12:10 PMcould this be a sign that it's time for you to move to a platform beyond the free version of Movable Type? Posted by Robin at December 16, 2007 12:18 PMI don't think so, Robin. This is an HTML problem, not a Moveable Type problem. I think it's also related to a general OS weirdness with this computer. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 16, 2007 12:28 PMIt's being blocked by adblock. I have adblock on Firefox on PCLinuxOS and it shows up being blocked. I tried your site on Konqueror and it was there, no problem. Posted by Richard Chapman at December 16, 2007 07:18 PMPost a comment |
