Voices In Your Head
This is kind of disturbing:
The billboard uses technology manufactured by Holosonic that transmits an "audio spotlight" from a rooftop speaker so that the sound is contained within your cranium. The technology, ideal for museums and libraries or environments that require a quiet atmosphere for isolated audio slideshows, has rarely been used on such a scale before. For random passersby and residents who have to walk unwittingly through the area where the voice will penetrate their inner peace, it's another story.
I predict a lawsuit at some point.

I think a little pen like device that beeps when it detects the signal would be a great addition to the pocket protector. That way you can tell which voices in your head to ignore.

Any bets on how long it'll take for someone to hack this technology and insert their own messages, too...?

The Museum of Flight has an audio system of this type in their Pete Conrad exhibit.
It's very much like the Get Smart "cone of silence" -- except it works.
I hope they'll start using it in airports for messages like "The moving walkway is coming to an end. Please watch your step!"
