The Splendor Of Alpha Geeks

Here are a couple of posts on the dress code for top programmers. Beards seem to be required, unless you're a woman. And as he notes, nothing says programmer like flannel.

I have been known to wear a "uniform" consisting of khaki pants and a light blue dress shirt. I don't want to look too casual, but jacket and tie look out of place in my workplace, so this attire is a compromise.

I did not think anything of it until I walked past the Civil/Contruction Engineering wing, and I encountered a group of graduate students standing around waiting to get into a conference room, all wearing khaki pants and light-blue dress shirts.

Don't know if this was their usual attire -- I think they were "dressed up" because they were attending a PhD defense for one of their compatriots. All I know is that I looked at them, took another look at what I was wearing, and shrugged and wondered about the connection.

I am in Electrical Engineering, but does this mean I dress like a Civil Engineering geek?
