If Only
Is it possible that the Steyn imbroglio could be used to shut down the Canadian Human RightsWrongs Commission? It's something else that's long overdue.
[Afternoon update]
More thoughts from Damian Penny.

Do these Human Rights(?) Commissions have any real judicial power or are they just another QUANGO?
For those who may not know; QUANGO is almost an acronym for QUasi-Autonomous Non-Governmental Organisation.
Had a lot of them in the UK in the late 60's and early 70's. They just spent money, ruffled feathers and made a lot of noise. Probably generated enough hot air to start the global warming thing!
If a person's human rights have been violated then what's wrong with the normal process of the police and the courts?
Do away with Political Correctness and all QUANGO's.

We need one domino to start the PC dominoes falling. Hopefully things like "gun-free" zone liability laws, SCOOTUS deciding that the 2nd Amendment is worded THE way our founding fathers meant it and did not foresee a need for interference now and all these QUANGOs being shut down, will topple more than one.
Viva la revolucion!!
(I like QUANGO, it says it all)

The human rights tribunals in Canada have very real powers to levy fines, award damages, and order changes in policy. Their decisions are subject to judicial appeal, and the most egregious are usually overturned in time. Still, the net result is to put defendants through the time and legal expense of a trial for what often seems to be a kangaroo court. After all, who's got the motivation to work on a human rights tribunal other than those most likely to perceive human rights violations everywhere?

Hamlet, Act 3, Scene IV:
HAMLET:
There's letters seal'd: and my two schoolfellows,
Whom I will trust as I will adders fang'd,
They bear the mandate; they must sweep my way,
And marshal me to knavery. Let it work;
For 'tis the sport to have the engineer
Hoist with his own petard: and 't shall go hard
But I will delve one yard below their mines,
And blow them at the moon: O, 'tis most sweet,
When in one line two crafts directly meet.

Wonderful cite, John. I wonder if anyone on the commission is familiar with the Bard?
