Continuing The Downhill Slide
In the eighties and nineties, I was a devoted reader of the Economist. It was my primary source for news (having long before given up on the pablum offered up by Newsweek and Time). But things like this are the reason that I no longer am. It would be nice if we could once again get a classically liberal news magazine.

I think the Economist began its decline around '95 or so. This is about the time that Bill Emmott became the Editor in Chief. I have not been happy with the economist for the past 8 years or so and have stopped reading it. I am quite disappointed in the Economist magazine these days.
The same goes for Fortune magazine. They decided to become "trendy" around '95 or so and have declined since then.
Forbes magazine can be good. But its quality and editorializing varies from issue to issue. Also, it seems to promote a more "conservative" world-view as apposed to a purely classical liberal worldview that the Economist used to promote. Also, it is a bit too American-centric to really be international.
I think the real information is now coming through the internet (along with all kinds of crap).
