Those Who Know Him Best
Fred Thompson mops up the floor with Hillary (and other Dems) in Tennessee. Giuliani and Romney don't fare so well (and I suspect that this will be true in the south in general).
This seems like an interesting harbinger to me. Does it mean that as the rest of the country gets to know him as well as Volunteers do, that his polls will improve similarly?
[Update a few minutes later]
In further Thompson news, here are some reported excerpts from a speech on the war that he just gave at The Citadel.

The impression I get is that few republicans actually like Rudy Giuliani, but he gets support anyway because of an impression he can win the general election. I'm not yet certain that Fred Thompson lives up to the un-compromised conservative platform of his campaign, but so far he looks like a winner to me.

I get the impression the Rudy's lead is an artifact of the MSM interest in him. I don't live on the Eastern Seaboard, but I hear very little support for him in Texas. Indeed, I'm starting to see what is pretty much an effort to remind Republicans that no votes have been cast.
On the other hand, Fred is just starting to recover the buzz he had before he officially announced. He certainly took several steps back and lost some time. I keep wondering if this strategy is good or bad. It could be good, because he avoids unnecessary financial expenditures when it doesn't count, but it could be bad if he is forgotten early.

Last time I was in South Carolina I was surprised to see a LOT of Romney signs on the sides of roads. Someone's spending a good amount of money pushing him in the South.
