Light Posting

I'm at the Fort Lauderdale Airport, waiting for a flight to Dallas that's delayed half an hour (or at least I hope that it's only half an hour). Going to a family wedding this weekend, so probably not a lot of posts until Monday.

Well, OK, just this one. Here's a scholarly treatise over at Cracked on five potential and even semi-plausible zombie apocalypse scenarios. I know it's a little late for Halloween, but heck, these holiday preps are moving earlier and earlier, so think of it as the first Halloween 2008 story.

I like the color coded zombie warning system, but unfortunately there's really only two colors that matter (green - not happening yet, red - we're all gonna die). Anything in between is just to placate the panicked, as yet unzombified masses.

There is a book out called "Zombie Survival Guide - Complete Protection from the Undead"

I can't remember the authors name, Max something.

Anyway, it gives a lot of scientific evidence to confirm the existance of a virus with causes zombie infestetions. It describes a level 4 infestation - "An Undead World", and describes how to survive (in amazing detail) if (or more likely when) such a situation occurs.

The book is great fun to read until the end when it actually describes 10 or 15 recorded accounts of zombie attacks and infestations. Amazingly, about half the stories highlight how evil, imperialistic and greedy Western civilization is and Christianity in particular. Its amazing how many zombie attacks involved bumbeling, idiotic, intolerant Christian monks, crusadors and white slave owners and total catastrophe was averted again and again by Shitu monks, slaves, and muslim naturalists.

Too late for Halloween, but not too late for el dia de los muertos.

_The Zombie Survival Guide_ is by Max Brooks, son of Mel Brooks (yes, that Mel Brooks). His latest book, _World War Z_, is an extremely entertaining "oral history" of World War Z, the Zombie War. While a great read, _World War Z_ is not a tongue-in-cheek comedy, but a straight-faced recounting of what a global total war (that happens to be against zombies) would be like.

The movie rights to _World War Z_ sold in a snap; the film is in pre-production now.
