I am actually quite optimistic that at least some (more) lefties will wake up, as time goes by, to the absurdity of them being in alliance with radical Islamists.
I am not so optimistic. Rational and honest with themsleves lefties are not in alliance with radical Islamists. Those who are in such alliance, are totalitarians who, if in power, would be hanging people just as happily as ayatollahs do -- or as Stalin did. They have far more in common with Islamofascists than just "enemy of my enemy is my friend".

Check out the UK
In brief the Socialist Workers Party (Loony Trotskities) linked up with the Islamicists to form an alliance of convenience called Respect. Rember Goerge Galloway MP - that's the chap...
Now the SWP are discovering that they aren't wanted anymore.

I think a partial purpose of some of these beliefs (at least from a male oriented point of view) is as a demonstration of sexual or mate fitness. That is, you are so well off (and hence a high value mate) that you can advocate some idea that would otherwise be destructive to you or your family and associates. So there's little reason to expect change until the Islamic connection actually causes real danger.

Forgive me Karl, but the lyric:
"But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow"
suddenly pops to mind. Might have some utility in explaining the demographic collapse in some areas of the world...

If Che is a man of God, does that make him an opiate of the masses?
