Vice President Brownback? I don't know how likely it is, but I thought that there was an interesting comment at this post about Giuliani's candidacy. I find it interesting because, rightly or wrongly, the vice president has been traditionally in charge of space policy. And while there are a lot of things that I wouldn't want Sam Brownback in charge of, considering that his adviser on space was Pete Worden, we might be in for some very interesting space policy under him. Brownback would be a good choice for GOP Veep, however, I am doubtful he would agree to run with Rudy. Why? Abortion rights. And that is why Rudy would LOVE to win Brownback's support. Posted by Bill White at October 21, 2007 11:38 AMI am doubtful he would agree to run with Rudy. Why? Abortion rights. I doubt if that's true, but if so, it would be a stupid reason. The only effect a president has on abortion is Supreme Court appointments, and Rudy has already pledged to appoint constructionists. Posted by Rand Simberg at October 21, 2007 11:40 AMWashington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Sam Brownback officially ended his bid for the Republican nomination for president on Friday and he told the media that he is certain a pro-abortion candidate won't capture the party's nod. That's a clear reference to pro-abortion candidate Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City.Posted by at October 21, 2007 11:40 AM Rand, I agree it is a stupid reason, but the GOP needs to run with the base they have, not the base they would like to have. Values voters simply are an essential voting block for GOP success and anti-abortion activists such as Randall Terry have already said that POTUS Hillary combined with a plan to focus on 2012 would be a better option for the pro-life movement than POTUS Rudy, in 2008. Posted by Bill White at October 21, 2007 11:45 AMWhy is Bill White suddenly calling the President a "Potus"? Is this "Talk Like Robert Oler Day"? Posted by Edward Wright at October 21, 2007 03:14 PMI don't know, but I thought that POTUS was common parlance for President of the United States. As SCOTUS is the Supreme Court. Posted by Rand Simberg at October 21, 2007 03:19 PMPOTUS *is* a well-known term, but most of us use the word "President," the far more common term. Anecdotally, I don't know of anyone who uses the former in casual conversation, and everyone I know who has occasion to bring it up uses the latter. He could just as easily use "Pres," a more common abbreviation that's even shorter than "Potus." I always assumed Oler used "Potus" because he was trying to sound like some sort of cool government superspook speaking in secret code. Post a comment |
