Coming Clean

Israel is now admitting that it hit a Syrian target a few weeks ago. Both the Syrians and the Iranians have to be pretty nervous, now that they know the expensive Russian air defenses that they spent so much on are worthless (at least when operated by Syrians).

I would think the Russians are a bit worried too!

I suspect that the Russian's biggest worry is losing all that arms business to the various spokes on the axis of evil, when word gets around that their stuff doesn't work when run by incompetents. Or even when run by competents.

Soviet/Russian military hardware has been being proven second rate, compared to US/Western hardware, for many years. Evidently some never learn and/or they can't buy from the west so they take what they can get.

Evenif this is true, there is far more to victory now then
air superiority. The US has had air superiority in
Iraq and Afghanistan for years. Te Israeli's had lots
of air power in lebanon it sure didn't help

What do you mean "didn't help"? Air superiority means you can fly troops wherever, you have the option to drop bombs at any time, and you have access to air recon while your foes don't. It helps a lot even with guerilla movements. Yet you couldn't be bothered to think for a few seconds before you posted that garbage.

Think about what you post before you post not after someone replies to your comments. I'm really tired of these anonymous posts that just say stupid things that anyone could puzzle out in a couple minutes (if not instantly). It's not just a few times. You (or some group of anonymous posters) have done this sort of thing for months. Do you really care what you say or is this just some bizarre denial of service attack on Rand's blog?

Ahh, but if you're only trying to bomb a Nuclear facility, then all you need is air superiority. Israel has no desire or need to occupy Syria or Iran.

I think you are correct regarding Lebanon and air power. The reason Lebanon is not a smoking crater stems more from the fact that Israel, unlike Hezbollah, shows restraint in their actions. If not, air superiority would certainly be enough to achieve victory (ie. level all of Southern Lebanon).
