A Visit To Ramadi

By Michael Totten. Lots of interesting stories, if you want to find out what's really going on there:

"We found tons of weapons and IEDs. Just as we were finishing up some of the military dogs refused to sit on the flour bags. We opened up the bags and it felt like soap. We tested it. We didn’t think it was an explosive, but an accelerant. We took everything, put it into piles, and blew it up without warning anybody. It was a much bigger explosion than we expected. Urea-nitrate was in the bags. It’s an explosive made from fertilizer. That blast was so big that people at Camp Ramadi, all the way on the other side of the city and outside the city, thought it was a nearby car bomb. People are Camp Corregidor thought they were being mortared. Windows blew out for blocks and blocks in every direction. It destroyed the whole block. Civil affairs officers paid compensation to locals for injuries and property damage. Thank God no one was killed. The media reported it as a car bomb at the soccer stadium. Reporters in the Green Zone have no idea what goes on out here.”

[Update in the afternoon]

Bill Ardolino has a similar report from Fallujah.

"Reporters in the Green Zone have no idea what goes on out here."

That pretty much sums the MSM "reporters" - anywhere.

Yeah, he could have left off the "in the Green Zone" and "out here" parts.

If they are finding such large amounts of weapons, equipment and very poweful explosives, doesn't that just prove that the surge has failed, Petreaus is lying and the war is lost? We need to stop murdering people just so we can steal their oil. If we just pulled out, and I mean pulled out completely, all of our military forces from the whole region and stopped providing military and economic support to Israel and all the other dictators in the region, the Arab people themselves would soon fix all of the problems of poverty and oppression which are fueling the cycles of hatred and violence and peace would be the result. It takes two to make a war, if we refuse to be one, then there can be no war. Everybody Sing, "All we are saying, is give peace a chance!"
Your sarcasm meter should be bending its needle about now.

Interestingly, one of the most biased against the surge news services (and i'm including AP & Reuters) is the McClatchy News Service. They pointed out the campaign's gains in a chart, but
found ways to discount every single one. Not surprisingly they talked up the 'tragedy of the
Plame affair, debated the aluminum tubes; as if the Iraqis were supposed to be making any weapons;
received the leaked Aardwolf cables which encouraged a flawed approach to the insurgency;
(Abu Ghraib) They swallowed Richard Clark's story
hook, line and sinker (ignoring the contradictions) and their gitmo reporter? virtually paints the detainees like Spartacus's
men.

Here's a couple ways to win the war in Iraq:
#1, Use the techniques perfected by Japan and Germany in WW2. i.e every time our troops are attacked, kill any civilians nearby (note: they lost the moral high ground and the war)
#2 Restart the draft, $2 per gallon tax on gas to fund the war. (note: probably won't be very popular)

Otherwise, face reality: the war is lost. The only reason to stay is to save President Bush from embarrassment and to control their oil. A decent sized air base in Kuwait can prevent Iran and Syria from taking over.

Ahh......The Surge Denailists! They are so cute when reality bitch slaps them!
