A Generic Cancer Breakthrough?

Maybe:

Curley is brimming with cautious optimism.

"If we can come up with ways of delivering these particles to the cancer cells, but not to normal cells," Curley said, "this treatment will work. There's not a doubt in my mind. Any kind of cancer, anywhere in the body!"

Doctor Curley's team is ready to publish their first results using laboratory animals. So far, the targeted nanoparticles and the Kanzius RF machine have passed every test.

Hope it's not being overhyped. There's a little too much boosterism, and not enough information, in the news story to tell.

It would be nice to be wrong, but I'm waving my BS flag a bit here. It would be nice if they mentioned where this was published or interviewed researchers outside of this guy's team.

Also, the links following the article don't strengthen my faith in the reporter's ability to discern crap from reality:
# Water into fuel?
# Possible cancer breakthrough "invented" in Florida garage

That said, I do know -- and have worked with -- researchers doing nifty things with cancer and nanotech. I believe the first real-world applications we'll see with nanotechnology, outside of cool Dockers and industrial materials, will be in medical research, specifically cancer. There's more grant material in medicine than materials science...and nano is the scale of life, after all.

He hasn't just cured cancer. He also knows how to turn salt water into hydrogen fuel.

Let's "hope" that it isn't crackpot. Except, it sure is.

The nanoparticles and the RF heating are no big deal. The tough part is delivering the stuff to *just* the cancer cells, and not healthy ones. Hell, if you can target them that precisely, any of a large range of chemicals can kill the cancer cells.

It's not how fancy your hammer is, but how good your aim, that drives the nail.

So they could use Rock and Roll music to kill cancer? I'd choose Nirvana Heart shaped box, "I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black". Though they'd have to be careful not to pulverize my prostate with that rippin' guitar solo.
