Democrats In Blackface

LaShawn Barber writes about their insulting minstrel show. Republicans do this as well, but with the Democrats, it's completely institutionalized. Have to keep them on the liberal plantation, after all.

[Update at 5 PM EDT]

Semi-related. Just in case you've been living on some other planet, academia favors Democrats. In other news, most Israelis are Jewish.

It's better than a Republican choir singing "Barack The Magic Negro" isn't it?

One group panders, the other directly insults on its favorite radio show.

No wonder so many of them choose the first over the second.

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at August 14, 2007 02:32 PM

That's the best article I've read in a while. Self-sufficiency, taking care of your own kids, Hillary is a race pandering twit, what earth shattering concepts.

Hate to break it to you, T'n'T, but that was based on a statement by a Democrat. They weren't making fun of blacks. They were making fun of the panderers and racists in the Democrat Party, who think (and hope) that blacks are helpless without the Democrats and big government.

Posted by Rand Simberg at August 14, 2007 02:36 PM

Yep Rand,

That one went way over T_n_T's head.

Even Obama admitted he knew Rush wasn't insulting him but the media.

Posted by Mike Puckett at August 14, 2007 02:39 PM

TnT,
I'd say the difference here is that Limbaugh isn't trying to be our next President, while at the same time telling us how he is "all about" being black, feeling black, raising up the black race.

BTW, what evidence do you have for that "Republican" chorus statement?

Got the full breakout of who sang on that recording? 'cause I gotta tell ya, no matter how many 45's, albums, 8-tracks, cassettes and CDs I've bought, I've never once seen the political leanings of the performers listed on the liner notes.

Posted by Steve at August 14, 2007 02:44 PM

So I didn't know what TnT was talking about and decided to Google search "Magic Negro". I get a story from the Los Angeles Times, which is far from a Republican/Conservative mouthpiece. And it's written by David Ehrenstein, a self proclaimed gay/black man who makes a living as a Hollywood critic particularly of gay movies.

Ok, so Limbaugh has a Paul Shanklin song made about the original story. Here's Limbaugh's story about the song.

So TnT, are you writing BS from pure ignorance on the topic or are you intentionally being a moron?

Posted by Leland at August 14, 2007 03:35 PM

Guys, don't be dense.

Ask your black friends what they think of that song being played on the radio nationwide on the Republicans favorite radio show. I'm sure they Googled it, subjected it to critical analysis and agreed fully with the true meaning of the song, if not the actual lyrics.

Getting back to the pandering, when did Obama last pander to a black audience? How did he wind up as a Democrat? I'm scratching my head. He's clearly in the wrong party.

Posted by Toast_n_Tea at August 14, 2007 03:44 PM

Apparently, T'n'T, you're confusing Obama (who is electoral toast) with Hillary.

Posted by Rand Simberg at August 14, 2007 05:52 PM

Perhaps if you actually read the lyrics instead of just the title, you'd understand who was being ridiculed.

Sung to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon"

SHANKLIN (Sharpton impersonator):

Barack the Magic Negro lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
'Cause he's not authentic like me.
Yeah, the guy from the L.A. paper
Said he makes guilty whites feel good
They'll vote for him, and not for me
'Cause he's not from the hood.
See, real black men, like Snoop Dog,
Or me, or Farrakhan
Have talked the talk, and walked the walk.
Not come in late and won!

[refrain]
Oh, Barack the Magic Negro, lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
'Cause he's black, but not authentically.
Oh, Barack the Magic Negro, lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
'Cause he's black, but not authentically.

Some say Barack's "articulate"
And bright and new and "clean."
The media sure loves this guy,
A white interloper's dream!
But, when you vote for president,
Watch out, and don't be fooled!
Don't vote the Magic Negro in --

'Cause -- 'cause I won't have nothing after all these years of sacrifice

And I won't get justice. This is about justice. This isn't about me, it's about justice.

It's about buffet. I don't have no buffet and there won't be any church contributions,

And there'll be no cash in the collection plate.

There ain't gonna be no cash money, no walkin' around money, no phoning money.

Now, Barack going to come in here and --

Dammnit Larry J,

How dare you demolish T_n_T's delusion with actual facts!!

Since Larry has so kindly given us the lyrics, and since they are clearly not meant to offend black people, please sing it for your black friends and see how they react.

It really doesn't matter what the song actually says, the insults are in the choice of words, loaded with double entendres and innuendo.

And don't tell me it's OK because it was coined by a black guy. Yeah right, and there's a Jew over here who think Zionism is an abomination too. Wanna sing a song about that? Hey it's a Jew who said it.

Watch how all this plays out with the Black vote next time around. Or the Hispanic vote. Limbaugh could be quite a treasure trove for the Democrats if they play by Rove's playbook. Even a candidate as miserable as Hillary could play with this and win.

Shows how little you understand American politics.

Shows how little you understand Black Americans.

Excuse me Mr. Limey,

Did you go to school with them, College with them, Serve in the military with them and work alongside them?

I know that at least the professional ones are not be as fragile and stupid as you seem to think. Of course you would actually have to experience them as individuals to see past whatever bullshit you have been fed by the transatlantic media.

I think you are showing a bit of soft bigotry with your insistance of something that is not.

As stated in another thread, Rushes black call screener(his right hand man and best friend), black (and female!) newsletter editor and all his black NFL pals do not seem to have a problem but your non-listner limey ass does? I wonder why?

If you would listen to the program, perhaps you would understand the context. However, I am sure you will not bother to take the time, it might force you to rewrite your narative.
