The first Europeans came from Asia (actually Russia), not directly from Africa.

Yes, well, Rebecca McCann would say this is all fairly meaningless anyway, as those very early hominids were overwritten by the last wave from Africa 40,000 years ago.

Carl, that article's not very good, in that it doesn't define "Asia".
My ancestors (I am English) came from Asia, but this is "Asia" in its original Anatolian sense: from the Persian Gulf, up the Euphrates, into Syria, and along the coast. These would be the HV, UK, and T mtDNA lineages. (J was also near eastern but it was so late that it's not worth counting.) But there is another "daughter of Eve" labeled X, which for its part came in from Central Asia through the Ukraine.
There are very few African native lineages in Europe outside southern Spain and Sicily.
