Let The Purges Begin

So says Markos, who wants to "cleanse" his political party.

Historically, leftist purges don't come off very well. Let's hope that everyone makes it out of Chicago alive :)

Kos: "There is no Jesse Jackson wing of the Democratic Party anymore."

What exactly does he mean? What is a "Jesse Jackson wing" supposed to represent, from his perspective?

Obviously not the same sort of thing that this guy would associate with a Jesse Jackson wing:

Now I understand all the lefty hoo-raw about Guantanamo Bay. They want it cleared out in time for its gala reopening as the first re-education camp in the Kos Archipelago.

Early adopters of new technology usually prevail, long term. A better quote from the article:

As for the delegates themselves, they were older than I imagined they would be, many in their 30’s and 40’s with a smattering of wide eyed college kids and very serious seniors. This really shouldn’t be surprising since studies show the average blog reader is older, richer, and better educated than the average American.

The highlight of the day was a trip to the exhibitors’ hall. Here, all manner of activists had set up tables to hawk their causes and ideas. Well known groups like People for the American Way and the venerable Americans for Democratic Action were there. And groups who have received some press recently such as “The World Can’t Wait” – which advocates impeaching President Bush and trying him for war crimes – were advocating that everyone wear orange to show their support. When asked why the color orange, we were told that “orange was the color of the jumpsuits worn by Guantanamo inmates” as well as the color that denotes “warning.”

But it was the earnest little groups espousing various liberal causes that that took me back to my youth when we all thought it was possible to change the world as easily as you change a light bulb. Selling t-shirts and bumper stickers with catchy slogans, each was eager to talk about their particular issue with passion and insight. You might not agree with them. But you couldn’t help being impressed with their ardor and sincerity.

Attending YearlyKos isn’t exactly the adventure fraught with danger this fairly anonymous conservative blogger thought it would be. Everyone was exceedingly friendly, open, and welcoming. It almost makes me want to take back all those awful things I’ve ever said about the left

Well, almost anyway.

Anyway, Markos does not control Daily Kos or Yearly Kos. Actually, I find him to often be way off-key.

But no matter because he is a savvy business man who has made far far more money off of blogging than just about anyone else by treating politics as "open source" rather then top down.

The exact opposite of the old centrally planned socialist liberal model.

More bluntly?

The people at Daily Kos have never allowed Markos to tell them what to think.

I think that's a public disservice, Bill. ;-)

Live streaming video, huh? I'm reminded of the drumming circles I remember forming on Lower Sproul when I was at Berkeley. All these random types would gather in the plaza, bringing many types of drums from bongos to giant jungle drums. Then they'd just start thumping away. No particular leader, just everyone whoomping and tapping away roughly on a common beat, but adding flourishes as the nameless spirit or his Tourette's dictated.

Soon many other people would gather, apparently crawling from holes in the ground or spontaneously generated from rag heaps, to watch, nod their head in time with the rhythm, freak out, or dance in ecstatically slow movement as the spirit (or psychodelic drugs) moved them.

It was hypnotic, like watching bees buzzing in a hive, or Brownian motion. There was a sense of energy without order or sense, a giant buzzing throbbing ball of undirected, purposeless excitement and longing.

Wow Bill! You mean I can get the telescreen output on my home computer and hear Big Brother tell me how he will send out the Thought Police to cleanse the country of those who commit thoughtcrimes? Thanks for saving us the trip to Victory Square.

Thanks for saving us the trip to Victory Square.

He hasn't. You'll be making the trip again, Leland, after The Revolution, in the back of a cart.

But when you get to the Square then you can wave hello to my grinning crow-picked skull, which will no doubt adorn one of the pikes arranged tastefully around the central bank of guillotines.
