A New Oxymoron

Kind of like jumbo shrimp. An odorless durian? It seems to me that it sort of defeats the purpose. You can't really separate odor from taste, because odor is a vital part of taste (people who can't smell have taste suppression as well). It might be some interesting new fruit with an interesting taste, but it wouldn't be durian.

Given the apparent variety of durian odors (according to Wikipedia), I guess it's not surprising that you can make one without odor.

It'll never fly in China. Durian eaters are committed to the smell. Except maybe in Singapore, where there are restrictions.

Mmmm, durian.

Can it still taste like HEAVEN, if it no longer smells like HELL?

I remember these nasty buggers from my time in the PI. Foul, very foul would be my opinion of it. Never got past the smell. It falls in a category of odor of a hospital disinfectant mixed with rotting apples or melons. Nasty, pungent, sickly sweet and yet kind of sharp.

If they just got the Durian to stop aerating the scent, but it still had all of those molecules, wouldn't you say it was still the same fruit?
