Hollywood Nitwit Alert

Is Cameron Diaz a Maoist?

Probably not. She's just an historically and politically ignorant dolt, like the kids with the "fashionable" Che teeshirts. Which would be fine, if she didn't deign to lecture us on our own lifestyles.

If she toured Auschwitz with an Arbeit Macht Frei handbag, would she still just be a Dumb But Fashionable "historically ignorant dolt" to you?

Posted by Phil Fraering at June 23, 2007 01:40 PM

Yeah, probably, if she were a Hollywood nitwit, and didn't say anything else about it.

Of course, I think that the analogy is a little strained...

Posted by Rand Simberg at June 23, 2007 01:59 PM

More than a little strained since "everybody" knows the nazis were "pure evil" while "everybody" knows communists and socialists were all about "for the good of all" even though they killed far more people. Tells a lot about your average "everybody".

The same phenomena is likely the biggest reason red dictatorships stick around for far longer than brown dictatorships. People are willing to put up with a lot more and for a lot loonger when they manage to cling to some hope of it being for the greater good.

I used to have some of the Che' and Mao stuff but I, foolishly, wore it as a general taunt to those dead communist failures(I liked the irony). You know, ash-heap of history and all that. I wonder how my "Infidel" gear will be viewed in a few years. I think it is much harder to misconstrue that.
