Where Are The Principles?
While I'm not a conservative, I think I'm pretty capable of recognizing one. And I've never thought that George Bush was (either father or son). Bruce Bartlett, who is one, vehemently agrees.

In the long run, the Right will suffer from a more virulent and lasting form of BDS than the Left. For example, from the article (which I read):
Bush assured wavering congressmen that they were guaranteeing their reelections by getting the large and growing elderly population to vote Republican. He told them that Franklin D. Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson had gotten earlier generations of elderly voters to go Democratic by giving them Social Security and Medicare. Rather than buy the elderly’s votes for good, however, they were only rented for the 2004 election — the only one Bush cared about.
Yup. Exactly right.
Of course, we on the American left knew this all along about Dubya.

Bush one and two are the remnants of the Scoop Jackson wing of the Democratic party. The part of the party which got thrown out when the hard left took control. I've never tbought either Bush was a conservative and their spending habits supported that 100 percent. Essentually, the Democratic party moved to the left and the Republicans moved the same direction to capture the middle.

bush 2 is in league with the neo-cons.
Bush 2 isn't a conservative, and
simberg doesn't like being labeled a neocon.
