History Books That Kids Will Want To Read
At least the boys (though perhaps the girls as well). Horrible History.

My stepson has the Vile Victorians and the Groovy Greeks. Both books showed the same style, jumping around quite a bit in an almost anecdotal fashion. He enjoyed them, read them numerous times. Can't argue with success.

Hmm shouldn't that be "Gay Greeks" since homosexuality was the norm in ancient Greece? It would be more in line with "History as it bloody well was" but probably too much to handle for many parents ^_^

Is there a Ferocious French volume that goes into the bloody legacy of the Revolution?
How about Rampaging Russians? That would have to be divided into two volumes - Czarist and Communist editions. (Maybe Eugene Volokh could write the blurb for the latter.)
I can hardly wait for Indignant Islamofascists to come out.

I'm afraid Alan that volume 3 of the Russian set is still being written.

I'm not a big fan of the use of poo, piss and blood to entertain young people. Prefering instead, good storytelling, attractive visuals and the stimulation of the imagination.
The former gets old quick, and the kids tend to grow up to be the folks who stall traffic in the hope that they can catch a glimpse of the occasional severed body part.

I agree, except in this case, its not nearly as bad as it sounds. And the books do a fairly good job of keeping a young reader interested in history. That's a good thing.
