A Hero Laid To Rest
Amidst the discussion about whether or not professors are capable of protecting their students with guns, we have the example of one professor who saved his students without one.

He survives a forced labor camp during the holocaust.
He survives the communists who stole his livelyhood in Romania.
When a gunman attempts to kill his students, this 77 year old man blocks the door so that his students can escape and survive.
And it happens on Holocaust Rememberance Day.
A real hero.
A real mensch.
God bless this man, and may he rest in peace.

Definitely a hero. A man to honor and respect. Others should want to try and understand what made Professor Lebrescu do what he did.

The reason he did what he did? I like the quote I heard from one of the talking heads on TV: "He has known what evil looked like for most of his life. He saw it in the gunman's eyes and decided it would not harm his students."
I fear we are losing this most wonderful of generations, only to be replaced with a bunch of self-serving, unappreciative, cell-phone-wearing, hoodlum-emulating babies.

Your fears are unfounded. Heck, remember the young men and women of the 80's? Self-serving, unappreciative....relax, it'll work out.

An incredible person and a stellar example for us all. His actions utterly dwarves the evil he opposed.
God bless him and others like him who rekindle faith in humanity and righteousness.

Mac is right, GBuc. This isn't true. There's a bunch of youngsters over in Iraq right now giving the lie to this characterization every day. There's no lack of heroes in the under-30 set.

Someone with political contacts should get a Congressional respresentative to nominate Professor Librescu for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
