Learning From History
Looks like we're getting some new neighbors here in south Florida. From France:
There are no official U.S. government figures on the number of French Jews here, but officials in U.S. Jewish organizations said it could be anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 in South Florida -- mostly Miami-Dade.
''I would say they're in the thousands now,'' said Mendy Levy, a rabbi at The Shul synagogue in Surfside.
''There is no question of an increase in the number of French Jews in South Florida, and there's an expectation that that rate of increase will accelerate,'' said Jacob Solomon, executive vice president of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. 'French Jews see the handwriting on the wall and say, `We're not going to wait until it's too late.' ''

The Herald article is consistent with my observation that many if not most of the recent French emigres I meet here or read about in the local press appear to be Jews. From what I have heard, French Jews are also boosting the Israeli real-estate market.
I read somewhere that Jewish emigration from the UK is now occurring at a historically unprecedented level. I'm not certain that's true but I'm inclined to believe it.

I don't blame them for leaving. How long will the Islamification of France take? 25 years? More? Less? If you haven't read "America Alone", you should. I think a lot more Jews will be leaving Europe for the US and Israel in the next 5 to 10 years.

I'm reading "America Alone" now, and even though I'm familiar with most of the argument I'm finding it a fascinating and compelling read. My burning curiosity about these immigrants is how they'll vote ... hopefully pro-GWOT.
