Laser-Guided Asteroids
This looks like an interesting technology, for both detection and deflection. I'm assuming they'd have to be space based, which implies a much more significant spacefaring capability than we have now.

A more utilitarian use might be to modify asteroid/comet orbits to capture one or more for use as resources for further exploration/exploitation of space.
