No Jihad Here, Folks
Nothing to see, move along.
The religion that dare not speak its name. Or rather, the name that the media dare not speak.

Too bad the Reagan administration was pumping money into
all those muslim fundamentalists in the 1980's.
Too bad the Oil gang and Eisenhower overthrew a democratic
secular government in Iran.
maybe the middle east would have a lot less muslim
extremists

Rand,
You were right the second time. The religion has absolutely no problem speaking its name.

Once again our anonymous commenter proves itself an ignoramus of truly remarkable depth. Here's William McNeill, explaining where (among other excrudescences) the Wahhabi came from:
Nothing in the past had prepared the Moslem world for such disasters. Until the end of the seventeenth century, the age-long conflict between Islam and Christendom had generally tended to favor the Moslem cause. Nothing less could be expected by followers of Allah, whose Prophet had declared victory in battle against unbelievers to be clear and distinct evidence of divine favor. Therefore the abrupt reversal of the trend of history [near-simultaneous weakening of the Ottoman empire and collapse of the Mogul and Safavid empires — JDM], setting in so unmistakably and massively with the beginning of the eighteenth century, presented Moslems with a desperate and insoluble puzzle. Had Allah deserted them? And if so, why? And no matter what the shortcomings of the community of the faithful might be, how was it conceivable that God should favor Christian dogs and unbelievers?
Yeah, too bad about the eeeevil Republicans -- three hundred years later. History began in 1953. Everyone in the Middle East would be holding hands and singing Kum Ba Yah if it hadn't been for Ike and Reagan. I'd say "now I'll tell one," but there's no way I could top that.
