Brin makes some good points, but he's way too simplistic, especially in his belief that the world stagnated for 4,000 years due to the dominance of elites, only to be awakened by the coming of the Enlightenment. Any honest historian could shoot this position full of holes (and has). Still, Brin is a saner guide to the future than most of the guys he criticizes. Thanks for the link.

I would like to read someone "shooting this position full of holes". Did you have something specific in mind when you wrote "(and has)"?
And yes, I agree with your assessment of Brin's article.
