Hug A Muslim ...for Rudolf: A Jersey Evening Post journalist is making a late bid to reach the top of the charts this Christmas by dressing as a reindeer and urging the nation to "hug a Muslim". Don't squeeze too hard, though--sometimes they explode. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 18, 2006 10:13 AMTrackBack URL for this entry:

And if you're a woman, don't try to hug a male muslim. And if you're a man, better hope her brother or uncle doesn't see you hug her - you may have violated her honor. Posted by Eric J at December 18, 2006 10:31 AMI just re-read zombie's "interview" and some of his longer comments, and now I think. If all of these protesters believe in what they say we are guilty of, I suggest a "Breasts not bombs" rally in Gaza, or tehran, or kabul, or damascus. I would like there to be film crews, photogs, and reporters, and morticians. Posted by Wickedpinto at December 18, 2006 10:42 AMShould a four-year-old boy hug a Muslim teacher's aide? Posted by Alan K. Henderson at December 19, 2006 12:12 AM> And if you're a woman, don't try to hug a male And then given their feelings about same-sex relationships, that would seem to eliminate all remaining options. Just kidding there. Actually, most non-American cultures don't associate a hug with romance as readily as we do. Did he misspell "mug"? Posted by lmg at December 19, 2006 07:52 AMSeems like a lot of underlying racism in this post and comments. Try replacing Moslem with Hasidic Jew and say the same things since they share several characteristics. Most Moslems, like most people of a particular religious persuasion are born into a particular religion. They don't make that choice. And the billion or so Moslems in the world aren't all trying to blow something up. No need to trash them all by inference; there's a stink here and it's not what America should be about. You should consider how a decent, freedom loving Islamic American might perceive this post and commments. It won't be positive and we should see that there is no reason to offend without just cause. Posted by Toast_n_Tea at December 20, 2006 05:59 AMMost Moslems, like most people of a particular religious persuasion are born into a particular religion. They don't make that choice. And the billion or so Moslems in the world aren't all trying to blow something up. No one said they are (note--I used the word "sometimes"). And "Muslim" isn't a race, so you're torturing the meaning of the word "racism" to the point of meaninglessness here. I said nothing that is not true (Muslims do sometimes blow up--I'm not aware of any Hasidic Jews who do so), and I was pointing out the PC absurdity of the story, not denigrating Muslims. You should consider how a decent, freedom loving Islamic American might perceive this post and comments. I have no control over how anyone perceives this post and comments. I know that some Muslims are going to be offended regardless of what I write, and some of them may even attempt to intimidate me into changing what I write. Rather than wrap themselves in a cloak of faux victimhood because I (jokingly) point out an unfortunate truth, I think that they should put more energy into intimidating their coreligionists who blow themselves up, myself. But that's just me. Posted by Rand Simberg at December 20, 2006 06:26 AMPost a comment |
