Cool. Brings a whole new meaning to the (stupid) phrase "no blood for oil." In this case, it's blood to replace oil.

One important thing to ask about any solar power system is 'how long will it operate'? The molecular ones in particular are subject to photodegradation, particularly from the shorter wavelengths of light. I suspect these proteins will be bleached to uselessness by sunlight in a very short time.
