An Open Letter To The Pope From Catholic Ed Morrissey: If Islam is ever to peacefully co-exist with other faiths in the manner that Christendom finally learned how to do, then it has to start abiding questions and criticisms without resorting to violence. Islam has to learn to persuade and to attract people through reason, not through forced conversions and coexistence through violent supremacy. Muslim leaders around the world still believe that our faith can only exist at their sufferance, and any question of their doctrinal beliefs has to be met with violence or demands for apologies, not with rhetoric, facts, and reason. I've heard no denunciations from any Muslim of the forced conversions of the Fox News reporters a couple weeks ago. If anyone is aware of any, please let me know. I don't believe Islam wants to co-exist with other religions; that's the whole deal. In which case this discussion is pointless, I'm afraid. Norm beat me to it. Posted by Cecil Trotter at September 18, 2006 05:00 AMI think there are Muslims out there who can and do live peaceful lives. I've worked with a number of them. The last guy I talked to about the quietness of non-radical Muslims he said they are afraid to speak out. Not because they are in a minority of Muslims. But because they fear the violence of the radicals. He said his mosque doesn't preach violence, but there are radicals who attend there. They are not leaders, and keep to themselves. It's like they've been placed there as observers FOR the radicals to make sure they don't stand against the radicals. He said it's like living in an ethnic Italian neighborhood. You all know who the mob guys are, you're not joining the mob, but nobody's calling the police either. I disagree with his conclusions, but I've heard the same thing from other people from his religion. Posted by Steve at September 18, 2006 10:44 AMYou Ignored Atheists. Or I won't, I prolly won't, I don't really care, I'm an atheist, so I will just cook my steak as I please, live my life as I please, and hate muslims for burning people for trying to do the same. But, still, If you got in the way of me and my medium rare steak. I would burn you. or, just buy a new one, I don't know, whichever takes the least effort. Posted by Wickedpinto at September 19, 2006 12:59 AMCecil I agree with you completely. I have had the same experience with muslim fellows that I have worked with, good and decent people to a man. But in my opinion that is what makes them so scary and why I do not trust them. They live in submission and fear, and I believe that as a group they will go the way the wind blows. As a group they will not stand for the right. Personally, I would much prefer the mob guys living in my neighborhood.
