Litani Grievance

Two days after my prediction that the Israelis would move north to the Litani River in Lebanon, they are doing it.

The Israelis see the "300-500" soldiers lives that will be lost in the exchange as worth the cost of the border security. Hezbollah says that Southern Lebanon will be a "graveyard".

I disagree with Jacque Chirac who says that allowing continued hostilities "would mean the most immoral result". It is immoral to demand status quo ante borders that are indefensible and an invitation to future hostilities and extra deaths on both sides of the Litani. Expect the second half of my prediction, a wall, to be built as soon as hostilities die down.

Finally.

Hezbollah seeks quasi-nation state status. Allowing them to retain long range missiles and control over the ground in southern Lebanon is unacceptable.

And yes, I am a leftie. :-)

Ah yes, the French. A country well known for their successful efforts to keep marauding nuts outside their borders Strong, fierce, war like, the French!

Maybe Chirac will sell the Israelis all the unused equipment from the Maginot Line? Cheap.

Isreal should clear everything south of the Litani.
Make the 18 mile wide strip a no mans land and force everyone in the area to leave.

Anything moving dies.

Formally announce that if you launch longer range missles then the buffer zone will expand.

Offer to give it back if there is an international
force that will enforce the no weapons area.

If the area is emptied you eliminate the friend or foe identification problem, everyone is foe.
