Coming Home

Discovery has performed its deorbit burn (about half an hour ago). One way or another, it will be back on earth in another thirty-five minutes.

[Update at 9:15 AM EDT]

Picture perfect landing. Looks like the mission at the end of next month is definitely a go.

A very successful mission. We'll find out next time if the tank problems have really been solved or whether this was a fluke. Meanwhile, they have an inspection capability and a potential repair capability for the tiles.

It's still very early, but if NASA successfully pulls off the Aug. 28th and December ISS construction missions, it will have been the agency's greatest year in quite some time. Three STS/ISS missions, Stardust, Encelaedus discovery, MRO insertion, NH launch, etc.
