But my question is, "Does President Bush understand this?"

Posted by lmg at July 13, 2006 07:44 AM

Ledeen may well be correct.

That said, just bombing Iran with the USAF probably won't be enough (the nuclear program could well be a giant red herring - we bomb and bomb and destroy a decoy consisting of a handful of centrifuges). Regime change will need ground troops.

And the ability to withstand a major oil shock with Venezuela and Nigeria becoming potential theaters in this war and with Russia and China seeking to undermine us at every turn.

Ledeen's reference to the KGB was chilling. Did President Bush mis-read Putin when he looked into his eyes?

Bill,

Of course he did! Bush Jr. is a globalist, and had a bad case of wishful thinking. Time is proving out that, while the Soviet Union is dead, the oligarchy behind it isn't, and they are still partners with China to remove the US from it's global perch.

Bill,
there always will have to be ground troops. But we can move into Iran, after doing to them what we did to Saddam, ab alto.

That would stop at least some of the insurgency. And will also cut off one more regime from promoting our downfall and ruin.

Watch the carriers. Until 3 or 4 aircraft carriers are within striking range of Iran, we are not going in.

Carriers start to move? Buy oil futures. ;-)

Let see, the Army manages to deploy units that supposedly should have been deployed, then turn around and assign the "extra" units to patrolling the Iq/In border.

Only a year ago it was troops watching the Afghani border _from the Iranian side_.

I know too damn much.

cow herd,
you're just paying attention.

Here is the weird part of this for me. In 1979, as a military type trained in generators I had the chance to go to work for some guys, from the see eye aye I still think, they never really said. They were looking for military guys to run generators. We were going to support the "spooks" listening to Iranian secret transmissions, the ones going from the anti-Shah crowd to the original Ayatollah Kakamami who was still in France. They wanted us to sit just outside of Iran in Iraq. I told them thanks but no thanks.

Sound familiar? All this Iran Iraq stuff?

I am not signing my real name to this, the see eye aye might be monitoring me...still.

I tend to discount the claims of the neo-cons.
