Fear Of Clowns

Some amusing comments. I don't mind clowns all that much, myself. But mimes--that's a different story. I'm not a violent person, generally, but they make me want to take a bat to them.

"A Mime is a Clown nobody loves."

Posted by Mike Puckett at July 8, 2006 12:07 PM

Hold off on the bat, Rand. A mime is a terrible thing to waste.

Posted by Paul Dietz at July 8, 2006 12:25 PM

I can put up with a lot, Paul, but you're cruisin' for a bannin'.

Use a pun, go to prison.

When I find a mime, I just stuff 'em in a big glass box. Now folksinging street performers.. those guys make Jane very annoyed. Hmm. If *I* had a hammer....

Mime = French Clown

Posted by Rich at July 8, 2006 12:57 PM

I grew up watching some pretty good clown performers who communicated laughter, joy, sadness and even life lessons by their acts.

Unfortunately, it's common in our present culture to take something innocent and harmless, like a circus clown, and turn it into a symbol for something horrific, evil and diseased.

It you folks want to find the essentials of moral relativism and the multicultural morass then look no further than this symbolic process.

To quote Steven Wright:

"If you shoot a Mime, is it the law that you must use a silencer?"

It's plain to see that making fun of the Coulrophobic is still a problem in this country. If we keep talking trash about the Coulrophobic, maybe all clowns will get other jobs. If we stifle someones urge to wear make-up and funny clothes and make ballons animals, who will wind up doing it? Guys in suits? Tammy Fay?

The next time your thinking of dissing clowns or the Coulrophobic, just remember this ittle rhyme.

A little song, a little dance,
a little seltzer, down your pants!!

And if you continue to write this anti-Coulrophobic anti-clown drivel, protect yourself because Homey don' play dat!!

And last but not least, before you get down on clowns or the Coulrophobic in general, remember the immortal words of Americas most famous clown, "I did not!! have sexual relations!! with that woman!!"

All I need to know is that environmentalists love clowns because they're the most efficient carpoolers.

Gimme a Shriner in a single-occupant vehicle any day.

Fear of clowns may seem funny to some, but not to the terrified. I work with youths and little kids at the local YMCA. Adults are amazed to find that clowns terrify many children, some of whom grow up to become adults who still shiver when clowns appear.

Bernard, fear of almost anything is funny.. Especially if you're not the sufferer. It's funny because we're glad the clowns showed up and not the scorpions, or the dogs, or the dark, or heights, or tunnels, or guns or...

The source of all humor, is someone else's pain.

Posted by Steve at July 9, 2006 11:06 AM

Hmmm...

"The fears of a clown, when there's no one around...."

"If a mime falls in a forest, and someone *is* there, does...."

Okay, okay, I'll shut up.

I've always been afraid of clowns. I don't know where this comes from, but it might date back to when I was a child and a clown killed my dad...

Posted by Jack Handy at July 9, 2006 05:11 PM

Jack,
I'd almost forgotten the Ballon Dog murderer!!

Posted by Steve at July 10, 2006 05:44 AM

We all know that the clowns are really Aliens who are here to "destroy us all!!".

A good spoof of horror movies is "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" - very funny - but in all seriousness, the clown outfits in the movie are creepy, so discretion is advised.

I once read a novel in which the local despot would have all mimes hung by their wrists in a dungeon, on the opposite wall of which was written, Learn The Words.

Posted by pst314 at July 11, 2006 07:12 PM

ray,
my son and his wife are huge horror movie fans. As is there son. When he was 6(six) they let him watch Killer Clowns. I don't think that kid slept for a week, and neither did his boneheaded parents.

On the other hand, sleep deprived, grumpy parents of scared kids make those of us who have reached the age and status of Poppiehood, found it high-larious!!
