Note the location of the exhaust nozzles -- off to the side, not near the pilot's legs. Also, the flame temperature of monopropellant H2O2 is relatively low.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the mention that one of the attendees has 1200+ flights. At approximately 30 seconds per flight, that means he has flown roughly 600 minutes, or 10 hours. Not exactly a useful transportation device but so very cool.
I like the idea of the rocket chair better. One of the big limiting factors in a rocket pack's fuel capacity is how much weight the pilot can carry. Back in the 1960s, Bell (I think) experimented with Pogo like setups that the pilot stood on instead of wore. One version could even carry two men. At least one version was powered by a very small Williams turbofan, a much more practical setup than rocket power IMO.
