Is UPI Becoming The Weekly World News?
Check out this headline:
Huge Asteroid Hurtles Toward Earth
Hint, guys. If it's going to miss it, it's not "hurtling toward" it. But I guess it sells more papers.

Maybe some editor cut out "the general vicinity of" between “Toward” and “Earth”? ;)

Aren't we picking nits here.
Toward is "in the direction of," and doesn't mean aimed at.

Where have you been? UPI has been a crappy newswire for a long time. It even went bankrupt for a time. The Associated Press is higher quality than UPI and has better writers. That's not to say that AP is _good_, but you can clearly see the difference in the two when you read them.
UPI is usually only used by newspapers that cannot afford AP's rates.

To be fair, it may not be UPI's headline--it's quite possible that the local copy editor came up with it.
