Economic Madness

The Senate immigration bill extends Davis Bacon to private businesses. In addition to being a blatant violation of federalism (though sadly no more so than much other federal legislation), this would be a disaster for small businesses nationwide. Encourage your congressperson to kill it in the House.

Sounds like a great case for the line item veto!

"davis bacon" isn't that the one that requires all emergency contracts be offered to "union" companies? I can't remember.

"union" companies, that have "first choice" contracts ALWAYS F things up. cuz the Union wants a special priveladge. I was a Union officer (not officer, more like clerk, sorry about that, though I did all their research for them, and almost to a one? union officers are IDIOTS) That is if I am thinking of the same act. The one that was suspended during the katrina contracts, which was in affect vetoed by mary, and ray.

Sounds like a black market in labor will develop. Either that or a lot of self-employed contractors. Maybe even competition on quality like the bad old days of airline regulation. Price controls are a big loser for the employers and even bigger for the people who are willing to work for less who can't.

The truly frightening thing about this is that it's the product of a Senate that is supposed to be led by Republicans. There was a time when Republicans used to understand economics.
