BRING IT ON!!
One of the advantages of aging is that those veins on the back of the hand start standing out, offering a far less painful alternative to the most popular spot for getting injections, the inside of the elbow joint. I don't know about other people, but for me the vein is buried pretty deep in that spot.
If I ever get diabetes and have to harpoon myself regularly, I want the doc to install a spigot.

Insulin is normally not injected directly into a vein. Most likely you would get subcutaneous injection only.
Otherwise, I think you mean you would want a PICC line. And if your really hurt or sick then you'll get a central line, possibly even 2.
For the majority of people that get hospitalized you'll get a IV almost immediately. Then, if your perscriped any meds you'll have them done by IV push. Which means that a nurse can use a blunt cannula needle to push the med through a port piggy backing your IV. So, aside from the one big stick you'll probably not get poked to much unless it is a med that is only used subcu.
