And Speaking Of Gay Shepherds

Here's a pretty funny (and relatively unhomophobic) thread at Free Republic on the movie. I particularly enjoyed the picture of Roy Rogers, and the comment:

Gives a whole new meaning to Buck Rogers then, doesn't it?

See, I knew I could relate this subject to space.

I think the theme of the thread is right on. It's not that I'm homophobic, it's just paying to see a movie about two shepards in love is not exactly my idea of a good time. It's really the case with much of Hollywood. What they think is great cinema just seems like a waste of $10 and 2 hours. I don't think I can relate to a Geisha either.

People, the word is spelled "shepherd" NOT "shepard."

(Not picking on you specifically, Leland. It's just that this misspelling was all over an earlier comment thread here).

Well, this is a space blog, so people here are just more likely to encounter the "shepard" spelling than the other...

You're right, this is a space blog, but there are "shepherd moons" among Saturn's rings, so all of us space nerds should know how to spell the word.

Well, actually, it's not (intended to be) a space blog, but rightly or wrongly, it seems to have acquired that reputation (or notoriety) in the blogosphere.

And the "shepard" being referred to was probably the Mercury astronaut...

The Orlando Sentinel gave it a fawning, embarrassingly worshipful writeup, complete with a picture on the cover of the weekend section of a heart formed by a strip of rawhide rope. Not that the Sentinel's movie reviewer is very, very gay or anything like that.

No problem on the correction. I just don't hang around sheep or guys who hang around sheep. However, I can put the herd back in shepherd.

Rand, it wasn't an Alan Shepard post.

Rather, your Narnia post a couple days ago (http://www.transterrestrial.com/archives/006293.html).
