What parallels are you seeing, Rand? The key threats to US integrity during this time period were internal, while now the US faces powerful external threats. Do we face the threat of a second civil war (perhaps from immigration)? Are China and India supposed to correspond to the growing military powers of the 19th century? Does the decline of the British empire then correspond to some decline of the US hegemony today?
