He Missed The Boat

King Kong barely got a mention at the Golden Globes. If Peter Jackson had been smart, he would have remade it with Kong as a giant, gentle, misunderstood gay gorilla, and replaced Naomi Watts with Jake Gyllenhaal as the love interest.

My theory is that Jackson WAS smart, and has already made replacements. This was originally a movie about an Arab terrorist attack on the Empire State Building. But as the producers of The Sum of All Fears and other movies have discovered, portraying any Arab as a terrorist is racist - you have to substitute something else. "A giant ape. Yeah, that's it...."

Ouch!

One man's giant ape is another man's freedom fighter.

"...he would have remade it with Kong as a giant, gentle, misunderstood gay gorilla, and replaced Naomi Watt with Jake Gyllenhaal as the love interest..."

Consider the symbolism of the Empire State Building in that version.

To pick a nit, I think that it was the Chrysler Building, not the Empire State.

D'oh!

It was the Empire State. It was originally supposed to be the Chrysler, but the Empire State ended up being taller when it finished construction.
