A Conceptual Breakthrough?
Alzheimer's may be a third form of diabetes.
"Insulin disappears early and dramatically in Alzheimer's disease. And many of the unexplained features of Alzheimer's, such as cell death and tangles in the brain, appear to be linked to abnormalities in insulin signaling. This demonstrates that the disease is most likely a neuroendocrine disorder, or another type of diabetes," says researcher Suzanne M. de la Monte, professor of pathology at Brown Medical School, in a news release.
If so, that might provide some clues to treating it.

That is good to hear, another disorder were starting to get a grasp of.
I wonder though if this will still remain a difficult disorder to treat since Diabetics are one of the most non-compliant patients in terms of following doctors orders and maintaining drug regimen.
So much so that a patient can have there extremities rotting off and still beg people to bring them a candy bar. And whats said is family members will still sneak the food into the hospital for them.

...still beg people to bring them a candy bar...
I think this should be read as "we are not treating the disease symptoms adequately" rather than "those foolish patients won't do what's good for them." Similar to when designing a computer program's interface, "there are no user errors," and if someone does something you don't want them to you need to work it out.
How about giving patients something to kill the hunger?
