How hard is it to shoot off a lock? A lot harder than it looks in the movies.

Ahh! I see the world has finally discovered Ol' Painless and his Box O' Truth. I have been keeping up with his doings for some time now. It is a good anti-virus for the ballistically challenged who think they learned that armor piercing handgun rounds can penetrate the Abrasion Resistant steel on a dozer blade by watching Lethal Weapon III.
Please be warned that the Box O' Truth is somewhat anecdotal in nature and Ol' Painless will be the first to admit that. Anecdotal it may be, it does at least tell us where to look further and will outright demolish some urban myths. As anecdotes go, it is some of the better ones.
Yep, it is almost impossible to bust a lock of any quality with a handgun.
Now, someone needs to tell Captain Kirk it is also equally difficult to knock someone out with a single karatie chop to the neck.

This is one of the neatest expositions I have ever seen. It was a well-done experiment. It should be sent to every movie and TV writer and producer.
Nah! On second thought, it'd just be a waste of time.

Please note at the bottom of Old Painless lock page, there are links to many other experiments of this nature he has conducted in the past. Check them out.
