Tressel's Job Is Safe For Another Year
In fact, he's accomplished something that John Cooper never could. He owns Lloyd Carr:
Ohio State (9-2, 7-1) closed the regular season with six straight wins and gave coach Jim Tressel his fourth win in five games against Michigan (7-4, 5-3).
And the game went pretty much the way the season did for Michigan. Good enough defense to win, and a promising offense that only occasionally lived up to the promises. Still, Michigan was only four scores away from an undefeated season. They're probably the best four-loss team in the country, and they did better than I thought they would. Maybe they'll get a good bowl matchup.

But is Lloyd Carr's job safe? As someone who had Ohio State student tickets for eight seasons, I support lifetime tenure for Lloyd.

True, but the Michigan win over Penn State was a very close call.
There's been some bumps in Tressel's tenure, the suspensions of Troy Smith and Maurice Clarett most notably, but winning vs. Michigan & consistently being ranked high in the polls will earn a Buckeye coach a lot of leeway on everything else.

Most of Michigan's wins (and losses) this year were a very close call, other than the "gimmees," like EMU, Northern Illinois and Indiana. A little more effort on the part of either the offense and defense could have resulted in an undefeated season. A little less could have resulted in being three and eight.
