The New Dark Ages

Mark Steyn says that the Eurabian war has started ahead of schedule, and that Charles Martel's long-ago victory at Poitiers is in danger of being reversed:

''There's a civil war under way in Clichy-sous-Bois at the moment,'' said Michel Thooris of the gendarmes' trade union Action Police CFTC. ''We can no longer withstand this situation on our own. My colleagues neither have the equipment nor the practical or theoretical training for street fighting.''

what about the black people and los angeles riots etc? How was that handled?

Posted by meiza at November 6, 2005 11:43 AM

how was that handled

When they tried to loot some Korean neighborhoods, it was handled with high velocity lead.

Posted by Paul Dietz at November 6, 2005 04:17 PM

And low-velocity police response - which is why the riots exploded to such massive proportions.

Considering they were pretty much wrapped up in a couple days, and the French riots are still expanding after eleven, I'd say we handled them pretty well.
Some credit to the cops, rather more to the Second Amendment.

This statement is almost a joke...

My colleagues neither have the equipment nor the practical or theoretical training for street fighting.

They have guns (equipment)
Rioters are in the streets (practical application)
Pull trigger (theoretical application)

The last is theoretical, because it's hard to learn to shoot while running away.

There is an art to riot control. Within a larger group you should be able to identify the real instigators of the rioting pack. The ones that are the real center of deviance within a mostly inculpable group. It simply isn't a matter of pushing everyone out of the street in a rigid roman phalanx fashion. You have to actually splinter the mob up into smaller groups in hope of herding the real troublemakers into smaller groups so that they can be subdued. The majority of the people will loss initiative when they no longer feel they have anonymity within the larger packs.
