Nothing new here. That happens all the time. Remember the uproar when some news cameras showed what looked like a huge crowd marching to the Saddam Hussein statue in Baghdad in 2003? Other news cameras showed the entire traffic circle, not just the statue, and it became apparent that the crowd was actually rather small.
I'm more interested in how reporters decide what is and is not the "message" of a rally. In other words, how they decide what is and is not "news." There were a lot of radical speakers at that "anti-war rally," and they embraced a lot of radical ideas. But the newspapers and television omitted most of that, portraying it in a particular way.
