I Asked You Not To Tell Me That
I'm hearing that Don Adams died yesterday, but I haven't seen anything yet to link to about it.
[Update in the late afternoon of the east coast]
Dang. I suggest a minute of cone of silence.
[Evening update]
Cathy Seipp remembers him, though I would have thought her too young.

It's a shame he didn't die at the age of 86.
(holding fingertips slightly apart) Missed it by that much.

"Get Smart" completely predicted the Department of Homeland Security. It battled a trans-national terrorist organization (KAOS). It was hampered by mindless bureaucracy and counterproductive procedures (the Cone of Silence). It practiced pervasive surveillance (the agent who was always hiding in sofas, mailboxes and grandfather clocks).
Although, to my knowledge, DHS has no one as cute as Agent 99.

I wonder if my kids would find anything odd about a man's shoe ringing and him answering it like a telephone. Maybe the gag still works since it is his shoe. I'm sure the concept that it has no cords would not occur to them at all.
