Big Talk, No Action

Remember all the Bush haters who promisedthreatened to move to Canada if he won? Well, it turns out that American emigration to Canada actually dropped after the election.

Maybe it's because they heard the (no doubt terrible) news that the Canadian government may be on the verge of giving up its monopoly on health care.

Ah, well. They'll alway have Paris. Not that they followed through on that promisethreat, either.

I guess people realized the Republicans weren't going to commit political suicide by drafting people especially when there was no need. I don't know about other colleges, but the university I was at had a little anti-draft propaganda prior to the elections stenciled on the sidewalks (things like "Do you feel a little draft?" with a tank helpfully added above the phrase).

Hmmm, Canada doesn't have a monopoly on health care. After all, if you want better care, you can pay for it. The problem is that the default health care is so heavily subsidized that private care has a lot of difficulties competing with that. And there is always the lure of the US's health care system just to the south.

Oops. The actually monopoly is on health insurance which in turn helps keep the private health care industry down. Apparently, a ban on private health insurance was banned in Quebec. The rationalization (at least the public one used to back the ban) apparently is that it's "unfair" for poor people who can't afford insurance.

What ever happened to give me liberty or give me death? Taxation WITH representation? It's WORSE!

You would think that the Hollywood types that always say those things would realise the simple truth. They have money and influence, so they COULD use it to educate the people on how our system is supposed to work. Instead, they say the strangest things and then never follw through, showing everyone, our enemies included, what a bunch of shallow children they are. Apparently my children aren't the only ones who need to understand that throwing a fit doesn't solve the problem.
