OK, Since He Doesn't Want To Do It

Let's all have fun in the comments section planning Bill Clinton's funeral for him.

There's got to be a cigar involved somehow.

'We've gone from Presidents leading our nation in battle to using interns as humidors.'

Rand, that knocking on your door is the Secret Service.

Posted by Astrosmith at July 18, 2005 10:56 AM

As long as the plans don't include a date, or a description as to the circumstances as a result of which he'll require one, I think we're OK.

Posted by Rand Simberg at July 18, 2005 11:00 AM

Can we plan to hold it in Phrance? He might have a chance of getting an outpouring of sympathy there.

He sure isn't going to get the same response that Reagan had if it's held in this country.

No, that's for Kerry. Clinton's best chance for sympathy is... I am not sure. Where did he apologize most, Africa?

Posted by Ilya at July 18, 2005 11:48 AM

Well, he was the first black president. According to Maya Angelou, anyway. She definitely should write a poem for the occasion.

1. No Caisson. El Camino with astro turf.
2. No trumpter playing "Taps". "Take Five" on the sax.
3. UN honor guard.
4. Eternal flame lit with the reflection off Carville's head.

The song is good, but it should be done in 4/4 time. 5/4 is a little too sophisticated.

Posted by Rand Simberg at July 18, 2005 01:33 PM

I would suggest a burial in a tomb with items he liked best while in life. Cigars, coupons to fast food places, and some good porn since we won't be burying any live interns with him.

It's not too soon to begin worrying about Hillary showing up with her totally stacked partner.

Posted by Banjo at July 18, 2005 05:28 PM

And in Clinton's honor, the US Navy will name a garbage scow after him.

Posted by Larry J at July 18, 2005 08:40 PM

I don't know about the funeral, since I wouldn't go.

I'd be too busy playing the bongos.

Wasn't there some culture- maybe certain Egyptian dynasties- where if the Pharoh dies, they sacrifice his wife and plant her with him?

Posted by SpaceCat at July 19, 2005 09:54 AM

Not certain about the Egyptians, but there was a not so ancient Hindu custom called suttee where widows threw themselves on their husbands' funeral pyre. One can hope Hillary would follow that brave example.

Posted by Larry J at July 19, 2005 02:46 PM

Well, Larry, if it would get her some Hindu votes, you never know...

Posted by Astrosmith at July 19, 2005 03:34 PM

Nah. While I admit I don't like Clinton, even he doesn't deserve to have Hillary around for all eternity. That's just wrong.

Posted by VR at July 19, 2005 06:06 PM

Clinton's casket, an old El Camino: $2500

Ground breaking for burial at the Clinton Library and Memorial trailer park: $500

Seeing the whole thing mentioned as a 15 second sound bite only on CNN: Priceless!!

Posted by Steve at July 19, 2005 07:55 PM

Put some soil from the Whitewater real estate development on his grave.
